The Atlanta Hawks have been on the precipice of becoming a legitimate contender for a few years now. However, they haven't been able to build an NBA Finals-bound roster around Trae Young. The Hawks are looking to acquire Dejounte Murray from the San Antonio Spurs which will obviously help them improve, per Zach Klein.

3 unrealistic trades Hawks must try to make in 2022 NBA offseason

3. Zion Williamson

Could the Hawks acquire Zion Williamson?

There have been stirrings about a potential Zion Williamson-led trade out of New Orleans over the past couple of years. It began with drama surrounding his desire, or lack thereof, to remain with the Pelicans. Injuries have held him out of game action as well, so Zion could realistically be on the move.

But the Hawks haven't been linked to the big man. However, a De'Andre Hunter-led package could catch New Orleans's attention. The Hawks would automatically be one of the most exciting teams to watch in the NBA with Trae Young and Zion Williamson leading the charge.

Make this happen Atlanta!

2. Acquire Dejounte Murray… and Jakob Poeltl

Dejounte Murray to Atlanta is extremely realistic. In fact, it wouldn't be surprising to see a deal announced within the next couple of weeks. But the Hawks would be set for a deep postseason run if they found a way to land center Jakob Poeltl.

Poeltl broke out in 2021-2022 after averaging 13.5 points, 9 rebounds, and just under 2 blocks per game. He is one of the better rim protectors in the NBA and runs the pick-and-roll extremely well.

Poeltl and Murray are currently the leaders for the San Antonio Spurs. They undeniably are the forefront of their core. They also work well with one another. So the Hawks would have a Big 3 with Young, Murray, and Poeltl in the fold.

This deal is unrealistic, but maybe a third team enters the conversation and helps make it a reality.

Honorable mention

One of Donovan Mitchell or Rudy Gobert was going to be on this list. However, both are realistic trade candidates for the Hawks. It will be interesting to see if Atlanta swings a deal to acquire one of the Jazz superstars.

1. Anthony Davis

Remember, we are just having fun here. But what if…

Anthony Davis and the Lakers endured a difficult 2021-2022 campaign to say the least. They missed the playoffs after originally being favored to win the Western Conference. And there have been discussions about a potential rebuild in Los Angeles.

The Hawks have a few higher salary players on the roster who could make the deal work from a financial perspective. But this trade is still very unrealistic.

The Lakers are expected to run it back next season with LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, and Anthony Davis leading the charge.

But Trae Young and Davis seem like a dream fit for one another. They could run variations of the pick-and-roll, pick-and-pop, etc. Additionally, Young would consistenly toss alley-oops to the big man.

Hawks fans would have to pinch themselves if Atlanta shocked the world and pulled this deal off.
