The New York Yankees are expected to be active at the trade deadline, looking to build the best possible roster ahead of their push for a World Series. Anything less than their 28th championship will be a disappointment in the Bronx, so bolstering the roster at the deadline would be a wise move for Brian Cashman and Co. While trading for some top-tier talent is enticing, the Yankees can't afford to overpay at the deadline.

If the Yankees want to land a big-name player, it'll cost some of their top prospects. The Yankees should be willing to move on from some of their farmhands, however, there are a select few prospects that the team should consider virtually untouchable.

The Yankees have one of the better farm systems in the league. MLB.com ranks their minor-league system as the 13th best in baseball, though there are some extremely talented players in their ranks.

Regardless of who the Yankees are in pursuit of this trade deadline, the organization must make abundantly clear that these top prospects are unavailable, unless the Yankees are getting some serious star-power in exchange.

3 Prospects Yankees Must Keep At 2022 MLB Trade Deadline

3. Oswald Peraza, Shortstop

Shortstop remains one of the Yankees' biggest positional needs going forward. While a trade for a shortstop isn't out of the picture at the deadline, New York won't want to commit to any acquisition on a long-term deal. Peraza ranks as the No. 2 prospect in the Yankees' farm and figures to reach the MLB by 2023, if not earlier.

Peraza is potentially the future at shortstop for the Yankees, and moving on from him without a clear cut plan for the future at the position would be a senseless decision. At Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Peraza has a .733 OPS through 60 games, with 10 home runs, 25 RBI, and 16 stolen bases.

Peraza could be the future at shortstop in New York, so even if it means improving the current team, the Yankees can't afford to let him go.

2. Jasson Dominguez, OF

The Martian has been on Yankees fans' radars for years now. Ever since he was a beefy 15-year-old hitting baseballs insanely hard, he's been touted as a future Bronx Bomber. He's inching closer to realizing his MLB dreams, with his current ETA in the pros estimated at 2024.

Dominguez is currently playing at Single-A, where he's recorded a .792 OPS with 8 home runs, 33 RBI, and 16 stolen bases in 69 games. The 20-year-old came to prominence for his ability to crush a baseball, but Dominguez is actually a very well-rounded prospect. His power is his selling point, but he's above average in virtually all facets of the game, serving as a solid hitter, a plus defender, and a talented baserunner, too.

Considering how much hype is behind Dominguez and the amount of years Yankees fans have been eagerly waiting for his rise to MLB, Dominguez should be considered untouchable by the organization.

1. Anthony Volpe, Shortstop

The No. 1 prospect in the Yankees farm, and MLB Pipeline's No. 5 overall prospect in all of baseball, Volpe has the makings of a future star. He and Peraza both have a chance to be the Yankees' future shortstop, though the latter is expected to reach the big leagues first.

Peraza is touted as a better fielder, which could lead to Volpe breaking into the big leagues as a second baseman, but Volpe is an excellent offensive prospect, hence why he's a key piece for the Yankees going forward. Trading him at the deadline would be crippling to New York's farm system, even if it meant landing a big player at the deadline.

This season at Double-A, Volpe is slashing .247/.341/.449 with 11 home runs, 41 RBI, and a jaw-dropping 33 stolen bases through his first 69 games.
