This year’s Mass Effect N7 Day concluded a couple of days ago, and with it comes an official blog post to mark the occasion, along with an exciting new teaser poster to get us all hyped up for what’s coming next to the well-loved space opera franchise.

The enigmatic image is certainly set to get die-hard fans of the series to take out their digital magnifying glasses and try to sleuth out every inch of the poster for any clues. The game’s official Twitter account certainly knows what’s up:

You’re probably here because you don’t feel like doing the same thing – don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

1. The craters and the coloration of the ground form what looks like the front-facing view of a Geth face

Once you see it in the N7 Day teaser poster, you can’t unsee it. The crater is the Geth’s main aperture-like optics, and there’s even a smaller crater to the south-east of the main one to represent the other smaller lights on a typical geth face.

Does that mean a return of the sentient synthetic race – meaning, a return to the Milky Way? How will this work depending on your Shepard’s final choice in Mass Effect 3?

We’ll all have to stay tuned to find out.

2. What appears to be a geth body is visible just south of the main crater

Another sign of a return for the Geth, or at least some involvement with the next game in the series, is the remains of one outside the main crater in the poster. Could the four figures exiting the ship be there to investigate recent Geth activity? Or are these remains very old, and the crater – and the body – just be a remnant of the past?

 3. One of the four figures that have exited the ship in the Mass Effect N7 Day teaser poster is definitely a Krogan

The bulky red-armored leftmost figure of the four definitely has the silhouette of a Krogan, Mass Effect’s signature reptilian, battle-loving race of aliens. Additionally, the red armor might suggest a return for Urdnot Wrex, a fan-favorite party member who plays a major role in the Triogy – if he survives it to the end, of course.

Krogan can live for several hundred years, so if the upcoming Mass Effect game is taking place within that time frame relative to the original trilogy, this theory might not be so far-fetched after all.

Additionally, the three other figures with our unknown Krogan appear to be wearing armor in a similar blue-white color scheme as the Andromeda Initiative, which could mean that the upcoming game might involve them, or be a continuation?

4. The ship on the poster is a design we haven’t seen in the franchise before

Perhaps the most immediately eye-catching aspect of the new teaser poster (aside from the words “Mass Effect will continue” of course) is the ship – a brand new design we haven’t come across before. It’s not Commander Shepard’s Normandy, nor is it the Pathfinder’s Tempest, though it does vaguely allude to both ship in terms of its general shape. Does this mean we’ll be playing a new character with a whole new ship and crew?

The letters SFX are also emblazoned on the craft, similar to how SR1 was on the original Normandy – which stood for “Special Reconnaissance 1”. Self-proclaimed “Mass Effect nerd” Shinobi602 chimed in on Twitter that SFX was the internal codename BioWare used for the original Mass Effect in 2003.

Well, that’s it for our sleuthing of the latest Mass Effect N7 Day teaser poster. There’s not really much more information to go around that’s new, but we sure can’t wait to explore a new galaxy – even if it’s probably several years down the line.
