Deebo Samuel was already ruled out for Week 1 for the San Francisco 49ers, but he'll miss a bit more time than that. Ahead of San Francisco's contest versus the new-look Arizona Cardinals, the 49ers have placed Samuel on injured reserve, per ESPN's Field Yates.

Seeing that he's been placed on injured reserve, Samuel will miss at least the first three weeks of the season. In that case, besides the Arizona game, the second-year wide receiver will be out against the New York Jets and the New York Giants.

Back in June, Samuel was diagnosed with a fractured foot after suffering the injury during an offseason workout with teammates. He would proceed to undergo surgery on his foot, with Kyle Shanahan optimistic that Samuel could return in time for Week 1. But as Shanahan uttered on Friday, Samuel's recovery process hasn't gone according to plan thus far.

As a rookie in 2019, Samuel emerged as a versatile weapon in Shanahan's offense, contributing through the air and on the ground. The South Carolina product accounted for 57 receptions for 802 yards and three receiving touchdowns. Also, he would carry the ball 14 times for 159 yards and another three touchdowns.

Along with Samuel, first-round pick Brandon Aiyuk is questionable to suit up for the 49ers on Sunday. Aiyuk has been battling a hamstring ailment in recent weeks. While the team ruled out Samuel, Aiyuk could still play in Week 1.

The 49ers head into the 2020 season hoping to defend their NFC crown after advancing to the Super Bowl last season. With that being said, San Francisco may have a thin wide receiver corps to work with to begin the season.
