Emmanuel Sanders was the only player in the NFL that started in 17 games in 2019 due to being traded to the San Francisco 49ers. After playing every single week, Sanders makes it clear that the NFL shouldn't expand the regular season.

“It was definitely tough,” Sanders said today. “If the NFL wants to change the season to 17 games they should ask me, and I say no. Because my body was hurting and I needed that break.”

Sanders spent the first seven weeks with the Denver Broncos and was traded a week before Denver's bye week. The veteran wide receiver was sent to San Francisco; who just had their bye week in the week before his arrival.

Therefore, no one on San Francisco's roster was as elated to get a week off in the Wild Card round than Sanders. The 49ers received a first-round bye in the playoffs due to securing the No. 1 seed in the NFC during the regular season.

In addition, the NFL has been contemplating expanding the regular season on the next Collective Bargaining Agreement. There have been plenty of ideas tossed around, but none of them have been plausible enough to consider long-term.

Ever since 1978, the NFL has featured a regular season that consists of 16 games for each team. The concept of a bye week didn't begin until the 1990 season.

Before the NFL revises the length of the regular season, the NFLPA has to agree to something that is beneficial for both sides. There's no doubt that Sanders is uninterested in the proposal of having more than 16 games in a regular season.
