San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle is dealing with calf tightness and is listed as day to day, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN.
Kittle is coming off of a record-setting season with the 49ers in which he played all 16 games and racked up the most receiving yards for a tight end in NFL history, totaling 1,377. He also hauled in 88 receptions while scoring five touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.
The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Iowa, was originally selected by San Francisco in the fifth round (146th pick overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.
He appeared in 15 contests during his rookie year, catching 43 passes for 515 yards and a couple of scores.
Oddly enough, Kittle only had a modest collegiate career. He arrived at Iowa in 2013 but played in only three games during his freshman year, logging five catches for 108 yards. He then appeared in just three contests once again during his sophomore season, finishing with only one reception.
It wasn't until Kittle's junior campaign that he finally began to become a part of the Hawkeyes' offense, as he snared 20 balls for 290 yards and six touchdowns that year. He capped off his NCAA tenure by registering 22 catches for 314 yards and four scores during his senior season.
Meanwhile, the Niners won just four games in 2018 and have not made the playoffs since the 2013-14 campaign. However, thanks to a roster full of young talent, the 49ers have plenty of hope for the future.
They will take on the Denver Broncos in their second preseason game next Monday.
