When San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle sent a tweet to Antonio Brown during New Year’s Eve, it sparked a huge debate on what exactly it could mean.

Now, Kittle reveals that it was simply an innocent dare, made by his quarterback during a party.

When Kittle sent out his tweet – one that simply read “Sup?” – too Brown, it sparked a massive storm on social media, with fans and media alike wondering if the 49ers were interested in acquiring the then-Pittsburgh Steeler receiver. According to Kittle, it was simply a dare from Jimmy Garoppolo.

“Jimmy totally dared me to do it,” Kittle said via Pro Football Talk. “And I am not going to say no. [I] threw it out there, and I thought it was going to be completely meaningless, and I got a response in about 10 minutes. I was like, ‘Oh, that’s exciting.’ It was fun.”

Garoppolo didn’t confirm Kittle’s story, but he didn’t exactly deny it when he was asked about the scenario.

“It depends who you ask,” Garoppolo said. “He said it was (me)? I’d take it with a grain of salt then.”

Of course, the 49ers didn’t seem too interested in Brown from the start, and they weren't one of the main teams vying for his services when the Steelers began discussing trade opportunities.

Now, they’ll have to see him twice a year, as the superstar wide receiver was dealt to the Oakland Raiders.

For 49ers fans, they'll likely be hoping that there are no more social media jokes, as the frenzy that Kittle's tweet caused was enough for a lifetime.
