San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is hoping to avoid surgery on his injured ankle so he can return in four-to-six weeks, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

If Garoppolo does go under the knife, his 2020 season is over.

Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a new ankle injury in Week 8 against the Seattle Seahawks. The former New England Patriots signal-caller has had a rough season in 2020, as he's dealt with multiple ankle issues.

The 49ers, after losing to the Seahawks, are now 4-4 on the season. They are in last place in the NFC West division. This comes after San Francisco made it all the way to the Super Bowl last season, where the team fell to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Some 49ers fans believe Garoppolo should call it a season, get the surgery done and be 100 percent next season. It doesn't appear that the 49ers are going to make the playoffs this season. The NFC West is likely going to be won by the Seahawks and there are just too many good teams in the NFC this season for the Niners to compete for one of the Wild Card spots.

In six starts this season, Garoppolo has thrown seven touchdowns and five interceptions. He's completing 67.1 percent of his passes and has thrown for 1,096 yards.

Along with Garoppolo, 49ers star tight end George Kittle could be done for the season as well. He suffered a fracture in his foot against the Seahawks.
