San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo took some criticisms from former teammate Joe Staley after losing to the Indianapolis Colts, 32-18, Sunday night.

San Francisco is now on a four-game losing skid. Garoppolo was 16-27 with 181 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions and a fumble against the Colts.

Jimmy G has been receiving criticism all year for his performance. He is not playing like a quarterback who just signed a five-year, $137 million contract, and so Staley didn't hold back in his thoughts of his former teammate.

“He came out, everybody knew exactly what they were going to go with,” Staley said on “49ers Postgame Live”. “They came out in the second and third drive and they were throwing the ball a little more on first and second down. Not having success and staying ahead of the chains. You got in third down situations much more consistently than you wanted to be, that were 3rd-and-long,” Staley said of Garoppolo on Postgame Live.

“In a wet weather game like this, you want 3rd-and-2, 3rd-and-3 situation where you can possibly run the ball. Jimmy [Garoppolo] not being able to move the chains on third down. A quarterback is judged when everybody in the building knows you're going to throw the ball, and I don't want to hear an excuse about the weather, the Colts played in the exact same game. Jimmy has to be better on third downs.”

Joe Staley didn't seem too happy with Garoppolo's play, and for good reason. After all, 49ers are 2-4 on the season–hoping they can turn things around soon.

San Francisco travels to take on the Chicago Bears next Sunday. It is a matchup that is a winnable one for Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers, though it's difficult to have high hopes given how the team has performed so far in the season.
