Things are not looking in Santa Clara. That was underscored once again in the San Francisco 49ers' 30-18 home loss to Carson Wentz and the Indianapolis Colts Sunday night. Now on a four-game losing skid, the 49ers have to make a move quick in order to right the ship. Otherwise, their dreams of making the playoffs might very well slip away in the coming weeks.  To be more direct about it, the 49ers need better play from Jimmy Garoppolo — if he's at all going to start ever again for San Francisco.

Asked about whether Garoppolo will get the starting duties in Week 8 against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided an answer subject to different interpretations, per According to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Asked if he will start Jimmy Garoppolo vs. the Bears, Kyle Shanahan said: “I would guess so. … We had two QBs hurting this week. Jimmy was able to come back and play. We'll see if Trey [Lance] can next week, we're still not sure yet, but I got a lot of things to figure out.”

Garoppolo threw for just 181 passing yards and a touchdown with two interceptions on 16-of-27 completions in the loss to the Colts. A rainy weather certainly contributed to Garoppolo's anemic performance, but he still looked bad considering Wentz had a much better showing for the road team.

The other option for the 49ers is rookie quarterback Trey Lance, but he's currently dealing with a knee injury. More should be known in the coming days with regards to Lance's health and Shanahan's decision on which quarterback will be under center versus the Bears.
