Third-year NFL head coach Kyle Shanahan has officially led his San Francisco to a berth in Super Bowl LIV. With the 49ers defeating the Green Bay Packers on Sunday evening at Levi's Stadium, Shanahan will now become the fourth head coach to lead San Francisco in a Super Bowl matchup.

Although it has been 24 years since the 49ers last won a title, it has only been six years since San Francisco has reached a Super Bowl. Unfortunately, for former 49ers and current University of Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh, the Baltimore Ravens were simply too much to handle back in Super Bowl XLVII. It is also worth noting that such a game was the only Super Bowl that San Francisco has ever lost while winning the team's previous five trips to the NFL's version of a title game.

As a result of Shanahan's team beating the heralded Packers this time around, the surging NFC West franchise will soon be playing in its seventh Super Bowl overall. In addition to the tandem of Shanahan and Harbaugh, Bill Walsh and George Seifert kicked things off for the 49ers in the 1980s and 1990s. With Walsh leading the way as a result of Super Bowl XVI, Super Bowl XIX, and Super Bowl XXIII, Seifert then took over for Super Bowl XXIV and Super Bowl XXIX.

The 49ers will now take on the AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs in two weeks in Miami. The Chiefs managed to defeat the pesky Tennessee Titans earlier in the day on Sunday.
