San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin is suffering from a bruised thigh and will be day to day this week as the 49ers prepare for a Week 2 matchup with the Detroit Lions.

Goodwin had a breakout season in 2017 as he emerged as the 49ers' undisputed top receiver. He had 56 catches for 962 yards, which were both new career highs, and also had two touchdowns.

Having Goodwin go down with an injury in the first half against a terrific Vikings team definitely hurt the team. He tried to come back after halftime, but it was very apparent that his mobility was impaired.

Goodwin's possible absence would be a significant blow to a 49ers offense which struggled against the Vikings in Week 1. Garoppolo completed just 15 of 33 pass attempts for 261 yards, with one touchdown and three interceptions.

The 49ers are already without their starting running back Jerick McKinnon, who went down with an ACL tear before their season even began. Losing Goodwin early contributed to this snowball effect.

After that disappointing start to the season against Minnesota, San Francisco will look to bounce back against a Lions team which is coming off a 48-17 pummeling at the hands of the New York Jets.

Goodwin's inclusion would certainly improve their chances of doing damage against that Detroit defense. But if Goodwin does miss out, their other wide receivers — Pierre Garcon, Trent Taylor, and Dante Pettis, who had 61 yards and a touchdown in his debut — will once again have to pick up the slack on offense.
