The San Francisco 49ers are set to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV and third time's a charm for offensive lineman Mike Person. The veteran guard for the 49ers is in the Super Bowl after being cut three times in his NFL career.

Per Eric Branch in the San Francisco Chronicle:

“Yeah,” Person told the San Francisco Chronicle, “this feels pretty good.”

“With Atlanta, I had a lot of really good buddies,” Person said. “And I was cheering for them, obviously. But it was just kind of bittersweet. On one hand, you want to see your buddies be really successful. On the other hand, it’s ‘I could be part of that.’ And you feel like you should be a part of that.”

Back in 2016, the Atlanta Falcons released Person near the end of the regular season. Just a few months after his release, the Falcons were in the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots. While he was rooting for his ex-teammates, the former seventh-round draft pick of the 49ers wished he was still with the team.

As bad as his release with the Falcons was, Person had prior experience to being cut. The first time that Person was released in the NFL actually came at the hands of the 49ers.

San Francisco drafted him in 2011 and would cut him just a year later. Besides the Falcons and 49ers, Person was also cut by the Indianapolis Colts during the 2012 season.

Now, the oft-released guard is starting for the 49ers along their offensive line in the Super Bowl. Due to his path to get where he is today, Person is definitely going to savor every single moment leading up the game on Feb. 2.
