The San Francisco 49ers are getting healthier at the skill positions, which means bad news for veteran wideout Mohamed Sanu.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the Niners are releasing Sanu.

San Francisco lost their Week 4 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, but both George Kittle and Deebo Samuel were active for the contest.

Samuel's return in particular gives the 49ers more depth at receiver, with rookie wideout Brandon Aiyuk looking like a playmaker in the early going.

Sanu, meanwhile, will look for his third new home in the past few months.

The 31-year-old had emerged as a reliable third option in his three-plus years with the Atlanta Falcons. But Sanu has had a hard time sticking with a roster as of late.

Atlanta traded Sanu to the New England Patriots in exchange for a second-round draft pick. Sanu played in eight games with the Pats, racking up just 26 receptions for 207 yards and one score.

New England figured to retain Sanu after electing not to select a wide receiver this past April. Instead, they parted ways with Sanu in a cost-cutting move. The 49ers then signed the veteran, but he was a non-factor in the first few games.

Sanu caught just one pass in three games with the Niners. He was also on the field for just 40 total offensive snaps, equating to 15 percent of the maximum.

The Niners seemed to have little use for Sanu in their receiving corps, and even less so now that Samuel has returned from injury.

Still, it would not be a surprise if Sanu were to find a new team before long.
