While the San Francisco 49ers have not yet officially announced that Trey Lance will be their starting quarterback for the 2022 campaign, the first-year passer is already looking forward to the task ahead next season.
Lance recently took some time to speak to the NFL Network, where he noted that he will be much prepared to start for the 49ers come the opening week of the 2022 season.
“I’m going to be ready to go Week 1 without a doubt,” Lance said. “I’m super excited for the opportunity, I feel like I learned a lot and will continue to learn. But excited to get it going again.”
As mentioned, the 49ers still have not yet officially declared their plans to part ways with Jimmy Garoppolo in order to hand over the starting quarterback job to Lance, but all signs point to this transpiring in the coming months. The 49ers’ call to trade up for the former North Dakota State passer in the 2021 NFL Draft sure signaled their aim to soon build around him on offense.
When the time will come for Lance to be the 49ers’ regular starter at the quarterback position, he will have wide receiver Deebo Samuel as one of his options on offense. Samuel has already noted that he has “trust” in Lance to be the team’s starting quarterback.
For Lance, he much aspires to tag along with Samuel for years to come.
“He’s a special dude on and off the field,” Lance said.
“He can do it all. … The way he sees the game, he’s definitely someone that I would like to play with for a long, long time.”
All eyes sure will be on this duo when Lance earns the official call to be the 49ers’ permanent starter at the quarterback position.
