Raheem Mostert burst onto the scene as a key player for the San Francisco 49ers during their run to Super Bowl 54. Since then, it has been mostly downhill for him.

After playing just eight games in the 2020 season, Mostert played just once in the 2021 season due to a knee cartilage issue that necessitated season-ending surgery in September. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Mostert's knee is expected to make a full recovery. The 29-year-old is heading into free agency.

In his lone full season (2019), Mostert played in every regular-season game for the 49ers. He rushed for 722 yards and eight touchdowns, which both led the team, in a loaded backfield alongside Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida. His four-touchdown performance in the 2019 NFC Championship Game exemplified how dangerous he can be.

With Trey Lance set to take the keys of the offense from Jimmy Garoppolo, the 49ers could definitely use Mostert. Still, because of his limited sample size and injury history, he doesn't seem like a strong candidate to be any team's top rushing option. Elijah Mitchell, who rushed for over 963 yards in 11 games last season, can do that while Mostert pitches in.

The 49ers can use Deebo Samuel in the run game more to take the load off of Mostert. Lance could do the same if Kyle Shanahan chooses to use him in a dual-threat role. San Francisco's offense can be loaded with talent. Bringing Mostert back would add to it and help them return to the playoffs.
