San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman is a fan of California's “Fair Pay to Play Act” and he hopes that it destroys the NCAA.

On Monday, Gavin Newsom signed into law the Fair Pay to Play Act which allows student athletes to earn money for their likeness, names, and images starting in 2023.

The law doesn't allow players to actually be paid by schools, but allows them to make money off their jersey sales and autograph signings among other things.

Sherman has often been outspoken about the NCAA taking advantage of players and he hopes this finally makes a change.

“I hope it destroys the NCAA, in general, because I think it’s corrupt, and I think it’s a bunch of people taking advantage of kids and doing it under a mask of fair play,” 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman said Monday, via NBCSportsBayArea.com.

The NCAA has never allowed players to make money off their likeness and this is a case that could work itself out in court with the state of California and NCAA facing off head on. Sherman thinks this bill is going to either make NCAA change their ways or it could end up getting them to fold.

“I think this is going to even that out. It’s either going to cripple the NCAA in a way that they start to bend and make it more fair and more of a symbiotic relationship between players and the NCAA, or it’s going to destroy them and will start a whole new way of college athletics in general. I can respect that, too.”

2023 is still a few years away, but this is no doubt going to be in the news cycle the next couple of years, especially with Sherman and other athletes being so outspoken.
