The San Francisco 49ers jumped out to an early lead against the Dallas Cowboys, but a pair of critical injuries to their defense slowed their roll. After losing star defensive end Nick Bosa to a concussion in the first half, star linebacker Fred Warner went down with a non-contact ankle injury in the fourth quarter, per Michael Fabiano. Warner tried to walk off the field under his own power but required help from staffers to reach the sidelines.

Warner's injury is particularly concerning due to it being a non-contact injury. The former All-Pro linebacker was seen clutching his ankle while writing in visible pain on the ground.

The ankle injury looked severe, but the initial report on Warner is that he is questionable to return to the game. He was seen entering the blue medical tent on the 49ers sideline as the team's medical staff offers further examination on his injured ankle. Remarkably, Warner was seen walking around on the sidelines despite the gruesome-seeming injury he had just sustained, per Jake Hutchinson.

Warner is a key cog in the 49ers' defense. The fourth-year linebacker was a First-Team All-Pro selectee last year and has started all 64 games he's featured in since being drafted in the third round back in 2018. This season, the BYU product recorded 137 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three QB hits, and three fumble recoveries.

The severity of Warner's injury remains unclear, but it's certainly a positive sign that he was walking around on the sideline under his own power just minutes after what appeared to be a scary ankle injury.
