The NFL has taken a business as usual approach this offseason despite the coronavirus pandemic, but training camps could be affected. As a result, the San Francisco 49ers are exploring the idea of holding training camp outside of California.

Up to this point in the offseason, the NFL hasn't had to postpone or cancel any major events. However, that could be subject to change in a couple of months when training camps are scheduled to begin. John Lynch, the general manager of the 49ers, understands that San Francisco needs to be ready for anything, and explained the situation to NBC Sports Bay Area:

“You always have to be prepared for everything … And I think this pandemic that we're going through, there's so much unknown. And it changes day to day, so, yes, you have to prepare for everything. We're in great talks with our state and local officials, trying to learn as much as we can. But you have to prepare for everything, the unknowns.”

Since 2014, the 49ers have held their training camp festivities at the SAP Performance Center, adjacent to Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, San Francisco could be forced to relocate their training camp elsewhere.

The NFL has already made it clear that teams can't return to their facilities until all 32 clubs are able to return to normal. Provided that, the NFL could advise teams to find a city near them that could allow them to complete training camp safely.

If that's the case, we could see more teams conduct joint training camps this offseason. But it could also mean that state-by-state restrictions mean some teams, like the Niners, having to go out of state.
