San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel has yet to appear in a game this season due to a nagging foot injury. However, the sophomore was able to take strides and is already on the way to recovery. He plans to return to practice this week but will most likely make his comeback in Week 5 against the Miami Dolphins.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported on the situation of Samuel on Twitter:

High expectations were set on the South Carolina product after a solid rookie campaign last season. He recorded a total of 802 receiving yards on 57 receptions along with 3 scored touchdowns through 15 games played for the 49ers. He was also named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2019.

His foot injury has caused him to miss all of the 49ers' games thus far. In his absence, the team was handed an unexpected 24-20 loss by the Arizona Cardinals in their opening game. The Niners bounced back and exacted revenge against the New York Jets via a resounding 31-13 win.

The team is going to match up against the New York Giants with a depleted lineup with the absences of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, tight end George Kittle, defensive ends Nick Bosa and Dee Ford along with running back Tevin Coleman.

The 49ers have the Giants, Eagles, and the Dolphins next on their schedule for the coming weeks. Samuel's looming return is an encouraging sign of good things to come for the undermanned team.

In the meantime, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan will look to maximize the players available at his disposal to come out of the Big Apple with two consecutive wins and improve their standing with a 2-1 record.
