San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams is expected to be protecting Jimmy Garoppolo after a big offseason trade. Williams knows how hard it is to find a winning quarterback, something that Jimmy G has already proven that he can do:
“I think Jimmy G is awesome,” Williams said on “RapSheet + Friends via NBC Sports.” “I think he has proven that he’s a quarterback you can win with. In this league, it’s just hard to find.
“Having a quarterback that you know is gonna make the right read, the right throw, that has to allow Kyle (Shanahan), a chance to sleep at night.”
Williams came from the Washington Redskins, a team that wasn't having a whole lot of success, so it's a nice change being on a team that can compete for a Super Bowl.
With the Redskins, Williams was a part of a quarterback carousel, but with the 49ers, there is no doubt who will be the starter, unless Garoppolo goes down with an injury:
“From being in my position, not having a lot of success in the league, having a good quarterback and having a kind of musical chairs back there, I know the importance of it. So I’m extremely happy just to be part of an offense that really don’t need me to win. I (just) add to it.”
As excited as Williams is to be on the 49ers, Garoppolo is probably as excited to have him on the offensive line. Williams is still one of the best offensive linemen in football, which hopefully will help keep him upright.
