San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Pierre Garcon is set to undergo surgery for a knee injury and will officially head to the injured reserve list.

Garcon played in just eight games this season due to injury, and he secured 24 receptions on 46 targets for 286 yards and one touchdown.

However, head coach Kyle Shanahan announced Monday afternoon that Garcon would be out for the rest of the season, according to ESPN's 49ers reporter Nick Wagoner.

Garcon was unable to be a prominent factor in the San Francisco offense this season, as he couldn't stay on the field enough to help the Niners overcome some of their offensive issues.

He played just eight games last season as well, where he notched 40 receptions on 67 targets for 500 yards.

But there's no doubt that injuries have played a huge role with this Niners team this season, and it all started with Jimmy Garoppolo tearing his ACL in the Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Even with the injuries, the Niners have been able to make a little bit of progress in earning a 20-14 win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

But for Shanahan and company, they likely want the losing trend to go away sooner rather than later. San Francisco won just six games a season ago, and that will be the most it could get this year should it win out down the stretch.

The Niners will return to the field this weekend against the Seattle Seahawks before finishing the regular season with games against the Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Rams.
