Former NFL wide receiver Wes Welker has become a coach, and a recent announcement has confirmed that he's been added to the San Francisco 49ers' staff.
The Houston Chronicle was the first to break the news about Welker's move, and the outlet suggested that he will become the receiver's coach.
League source confirms what @McClain_on_NFL wrote earlier: #49ers will be hiring Wes Welker to be their next WRs coach. Don't know if it's official yet.

Sorry to see Wes Welker leave the Texans but he’ll do well with Niners.

The 49ers have been undergoing a bit of a restructuring of their coaching team. Rich Scangarello also high-tailed it to Denver.
So, it's safe to say that Wes Welker is coming on board at a rather auspicious time for the team, especially if you consider that he can help rebuild it after all of these departures. His time on the field and on the sidelines make him a valuable addition to any team.
The 49ers still have to fill the role of assistant offensive line coach and the head coach of training (the latter of which is a term dubbed by general manager John Lynch).
Welker has spent the past two seasons as the Houston Texans offensive and special teams assistant coach. A five-time Pro Bowler, Wes Welker is also the Patriots’ third all-time leading receiver. He was the first uber-productive slot receiver in the pass-happy offenses that have permeated the league throughout the past decade.
While this move may not be talked about much, Welker is going to make a positive impact with the 49ers as they look to get themselves back into playoff contention.
