As AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Forbidden Door approaches, the first step in finding out who will represent NJPW in the All-Atlantic Championship four-way match will take place at Korakuen Hall tomorrow.

That’s right; while the final AEW competitor will not be decided until this Wednesday when Malakai Black takes on Penta Oscuro in what promises to be an absolute barn burner on free TV, New Japan has four wrestlers vying for the fourth corner of the bracket, and the first two qualifiers will take place at New Japan Road Night 4.

In what is billed as the fifth match of the evening – or early morning if you happen to live in the states – Tomoaki Honma will be taking on Clark Connors. Honma is a seasoned vet with a historical propensity for deathmatch wrestling, and AEW fans should recognize Connors from Team NJPW Strong’s multi-man match against The Factory – who has been a consistent heel presence on New Japan Strong as of late – on AEW Dark back in May.

Once that match concludes, the other qualifier will take place, as Tomohiro Ishii will wrestle Yoshinobu Kanemaru. Ishii is absolutely a name AEW fans will recognize, appearing on Dynamite last November with Orange Cassidy in a fun odd-couple match against The Butcher and the Blade as part of the Best Friends AEW stable joining New Japan’s CHAOS stable.

Ishii also has experience with AEW tournament qualifiers, as he fought eventual tournament winner Adam Cole for a spot in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. Ishii ultimately lost that match, so perhaps this is his chance to redeem that loss.

The rest of New Japan Road Night 4 promises to be fun, as not only will stars such as Hiromu Takahashi, Kazuchika Okada, and Tetsuya Naito be in action, but the G1 block lineups will also be revealed.
