The latest airing of AEW Dark: Elevation started off strong with “The Native Beast” versus the “Non-Binary Nightmare.”

That’s right, Max the Impaler has made their AEW debut. Max has been working the indies since 2018 and most notably debuted in Ring of Honor in September of 2021, where they performed until the promotion's hiatus a few months later. They’re billed as being from “The Wasteland,” with a very memorable look and strong in-ring style.

After a nice video package celebrating Nyla Rose for Pride Month, the match went underway. It was short but hard-hitting, with commentary noting that Nyla was not used to facing off against an opponent that matched her in size. And Rose did seem to have her work cut out for her, as Max countered her attempted Beast Bomb into a backdrop followed by a spear. Max tried another spear, which Nyla dodged, allowing her to gain the upper hand. Nyla then used the ring post to help set up Max for a Beast Bomb, scoring the victory.

When it comes to AEW Dark and Dark: Elevation, the results are almost always obvious when it comes to matches with uncontracted talent. In a promotion where wins and losses matter, the contracted talent will most likely win any Dark match. What matters, and what makes things interesting, however, is seeing wrestlers you may know from the indies show their character and hopefully put a few moves in for the AEW audience. In Max the Impaler's case, they certainly made the most with their time. They were able to show off their intimidating look and highlight their raw power against an AEW wrestler usually known for overpowering her opponents.

Back in March of 2020, Abadon, a wrestler also known for their memorable ring-attire and threatening persona, also debuted on Dark and made enough of an impression to eventually join the roster. Whether it is for AEW or a return to Ring of Honor, Max the Impaler may have a similar Tony Khan-signed contract in their future too.
