Though he continues to promote Night 2 of Fyter Fest for AEW, Tony Khan took a little time out of his afternoon to drop an absolute bombshell ahead of Ring of Honor's forthcoming Pay-Per-View Death Before Dishonor: FTR-Briscoes II has a stipulation.

Yup, you read that correctly; after putting on the best tag team match of the year – no offense to Young Bucks-FTR II, or Streets Profits-Usos 24 at Money in the Bank – the Jay, Mark, and the Top Guys are not only returning to the ring for what really should be the main event of the second ROH PPV of the TK era, but will be wrestling in a bout where the winning team has to pin their opponents twice to leave The Tsongas Center in beautiful Lowell, Massichuists with the win.

Unless Khan books a really hokey finish or opts for the FTR squash in an attempt to rid himself of the Brothers Briscoe once and for all at the behest of the higher-ups at Warner Bros. Discovery, fans of the Rob Feinstein-started promotion new and old will get to see the two teams pin their opponents at least once each, with his a very special thing that very rarely happens on a wrestling show.

But which team has an advantage heading into the match? Surely FTR has the champion's advantage, which is a very real thing with very real value, but could the Two Out Of Three Falls setup even up the score, or even put the advantage into the Briscoes' favor? Historically speaking, it's a bit more complicated than you might initially think.

FTR-Briscoes II just got a bit more interesting for AEW's premier tag team.

FTR have wrestled in a Two Out Of Three Falls match on nine occasions; four on television, five on WWE/NXT house shows, and in seven matches with a title on the line. Though the team then-known as The Revival has yet to win a championship title in a Two Out Of Three Falls match, they have defended their belts successfully on five occasions, largely against teams featuring Chad Gable, with the lone blemish on their resume coming on November 19th, 2016, when the DIY team of Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa secured the victory two-to-one at NXT TakeOver: Toronto live from the arena then-known as the Air Canada Centre.

Considering Dave Meltzer gave that final match a 4.5-star rating, it's pretty safe to say FTR are comfortable wrestling in a best of three falls match, even if they haven't taken part in such a match since they were members of the RAW roster back in 2019.

That, my friends, is the good news for FTR. The bad news? The Briscoes have been wrestling in Two Out Of Three Falls matches for the better part of 20 years.

Though they, too, have never won a championship in a Two Out Of Three Falls match, they have defended their ROH Tag Team Titles on four separate occasions with the match type, and have wrestled everyone from CM Punk and Colt Cabana to Claudio Castagnoli, The Kingdom, The Young Bucks, and even the team of El Generico and Kevin Steen in the match.

While the Briscoes haven't wrestled in a Two Out Of Three Falls match since 2018, nine months before FTR wrestled their most recent match, they have a ton of pedigree in the match and thus have to be taken incredibly seriously in the bout, especially when you consider they took part in the same match in the second ever running of Death Before Dishonor, where the brothers lost to the Second City Saints, CM Punk and Colt Cabana.

Sidebar: Goodness, considering the incredibly contentious relationship now shared by Punk and Cabana, that really says a lot about the longevity of Jay and Mark in a wrestling ring.

So, all things considered, this match just got a whole lot more interesting for the fans looking to watch some top-tier wrestling in Massachusetts, not only because the two teams are going to have to take each other down on multiple occasions to secure the win but do so in a match where both have serious experience against some of the best performers the wrestling world has to offer. While the Briscoes have to be considered favorites to win any match in a Ring of Honor ring, as no team is as associated with the promotion as Mark and Jay, FTR are just as experienced in the match and with the belts around their waists, have the champion's advantage. No matter who wins the match, and secures that elusive second pin, the real winners are the fans at home, who might just witness a seven-star match.
