Awesome Games Done Quick 2021 Online successfully continued the streak of raising over USD 1 million despite being completely online. The eight straight AGDQ raised a total of USD 2,759,815.03 after seven days of neverending speedruns. The event breached it’s USD 2.5 million goal thanks to the endless support of its viewers.
As fast as they can
The event being transferred online birthed several technical issues but the fundraiser was an overall success. This year marks the eighth straight year that AGDQ has raised over USD 1 million. The event also pushed GDQ’s overall lifetime donation total over USD 30 million. This year’s AGDQ featured the first back-to-back world record to ever happen at any GDQ-sanctioned event.
It’s an exciting time for supporters and organizers of this established annual event. AGDQ 2021 breached the USD 1 million mark during a speedrun of Halo 3 on day five which was a GDQ personal best for the record. Subsequently, fan donations breached the USD 2.5 million goal during a run of Pokémon Blue towards the end of the event.
The audience received an additional All Dungeons run for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time thanks to beating the goal. The organizers expressed their undying gratitude towards their fans, audience, and supporters.
“While the GDQ team and I step forward cautiously into 2021 and leave 2020 behind us, we acknowledge that there are challenges that remain and are still to come. The team that is empowered by the speedrun community’s support will keep building on what we have and continue forth with our mission — to showcase amazing talent for great causes.”
The organizers wrapped up the event by reminding its audience of the upcoming Summer Games Done Quick 2021 event. GDQ made no announcements if the event will remain a wholly online affair but we can be sure that a lot of people will continue to be helped by the selfless event organizers. SGDQ takes place sometime in June 2021.
