Why Alonzo Menifield Will Win

Alonzo Menifield is finally looking like the fighter most believed he would be coming into his UFC career. He has now rattled off five wins in his last six fights with his lone blemish being a draw against Jimmy Crute whom he dominated and finished in their rematch. While that was a remarkable win, he did one better by defeating high-level striker Dustin Jacoby by unanimous decision in his most recent bout. Menifield looks to take out yet another professional kickboxer when he takes on the surging Carlos Ulberg this weekend at UFC St. Louis.

Alonzo Menifield has serious power in the light heavyweight division which was on full display in his fight against Jacoby which completely changed the landscape of that fight. Also, Menifield has shown plus grappling abilities which could be very useful against a fighter that will want to keep this fight on the feet at kicking range. He may not need to land the takedowns but the threat of the takedowns and using his clinch work against will surely help slow down the massive Ulberg. It's up to Menifield to avoid getting caught staying on the outside in kicking range and get within boxing range to either land his heavy hands or land some takedowns to score the massive upset in this matchup against Ulberg this weekend.

Why Carlos Ulberg Will Win

Carlos Ulberg looked like a world-beater in his appearance on the Contender Series when he secured his contract with a brutal first-round knockout against Bruno Oliveira. In his UFC debut, he was in the driver's seat against Kennedy Nzechukwu until he gassed out going for the kill which ultimately led to his demise as he was knocked out for his first professional defeat. Since then, Ulberg has won five in a row with four straight wins inside the distance most recently getting his first submission victory in his last fight against Da Un Jung. Ulberg will be looking to extend his winning streak to six when he takes on his stiffest competition to date Alonzo Menifield this weekend at UFC St. Louis.

Carlos Ulberg fights out of the well-renowned City Kickboxing training with the likes of former UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya. Training with a team like that you know you're getting great work, especially with striking which is Ulberg's area of expertise. He has made the transition from kickboxer to MMA fighter seamlessly with wins in nine of his 10 professional fights. He's going to have a distinct advantage on the feet and at a distance with a big height and reach advantage. The way he's able to mix in his kicks to the head, to the body, and to the legs makes him a very difficult striker to deal with. Against a plotting striker like Menifield all Ulberg will need to do is to utilize his length and movement to keep Menifield at bay and pick him apart to his sixth victory in a row.

Final Alonzo Menifield-Rodrigo Nascimento Prediction & Pick

This should be a great fight for however long it lasts. Menifield will be coming in looking to take Ulberg's head off meanwhile, Ulberg will be there to pick off Menifield at range while looking to snipe him at distance. Ultimately this will be very reminiscent of the Menifield and Jacoby fight where Jacoby was outstriking Menifield with relative ease until he landed a bomb in two of the three rounds and as long as Ulberg doesn't allow Menifield to land that kill shot it should be more of the same as Ulberg outstrikes Menifield at range with ease to a wide decision victory.
