The Los Angeles Angels came into the MLB offseason looking to make some major splashes to help power them back to contention. After hiring Joe Maddon to be their new manager, which is a huge splash in and of itself, the Angels have started free agency off with a major move.

According to a report from Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Angels have agreed to a massive seven-year, $245 million contract with star free agent third baseman Anthony Rendon.

Needless to say, this is a massive step in the right direction for the Angels. They have tried to get involved in major free agency bidding wars in the past, but quite a few players have past them up. Rendon is going to be a major addition to their lineup and should help them reach their goal of competing for a playoff spot.

Last season with the Washington Nationals, Rendon put up massive numbers. He ended up batting .319 to go along with 34 home runs and 126 RBI's. Washington wanted to get a deal done with Rendon, but they were unable to do so after the massive contract they gave Stephen Strasburg.

Los Angeles will have quite a bit of star power in their lineup. Mike Trout is arguably still the best player in baseball and Shoehei Ohtani has shown signs of stardom if he can stay healthy.

Rendon is just one step towards getting back to the postseason, but it is a huge step. Fans in L.A. should be getting very excited to see how this team looks in 2020.
