Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels are in a bit of a pickle right now. After a hot start to the season, the team has been slumping as of late. We're talking nine losses in a row level of slump. At the core of this slump, is, of course, Mike Trout, who is going through a rough slump of his own.

Saturday's loss to the Phillies extended Mike Trout's hitless streak to 23 at-bats. That is quite easily the Angels star's career-worst record in that department. The normally hot Trout simply couldn't hit a ball if his life depended on it. After their game, Trout talked to media about it, saying that: (via ABC)

“I'm just trying to get into a good position to hit,” Trout said. “And right now, I'm not… I'm in it. I've got to get out of it. I'm just searching too much right now.”

At first glance, it seems like the Angels' bats aren't struggling. In fact, the team managed seven hits in their loss to the Phillies on Saturday. However, what did them in is their continued inability to capitalize on scoring opportunity. Far too often, the Angels would strand their runners during this awful stretch. It's a terrible spot to be in right now.

The fate of the Angels obviously rests on their superstar's shoulders. If the team wants to keep their momentum alive and make a trip to the playoffs, they will need Trout to return back to his previous form. If not… well, they're going to be in for yet another rough ride.
