The MLB All-Star festivities are quickly nearing, with all the action set to begin on July 17th at Dodger Stadium in sunny Los Angeles. There was already a firm belief that Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout was leaning toward passing on the Home Run Derby and on Friday, shortly after being named an American League starter, the outfielder confirmed he will not be hitting nukes in the contest.

Teammate Shohei Ohtani, who participated in the 2021 Home Run Derby, has yet to make a decision on his status this time around. The MLB continues to try and convince Mike Trout every single year to participate in the prestigious event, but he never does. It makes sense, though. As much as it's an entertaining event, this doesn't exactly help a guy's swing.

Trout is a dream contestant for the competition, though. Despite dealing with a ton of injuries over the last number of years, Trout has hit 165 home runs since the beginning of the 2017 season. There are only five other players who have gone deep more during that span.

Mike Trout isn't lighting it up in 2022, but he's still batting .265 with 23 long balls. Most importantly, the Angels star is managing to stay relatively healthy, but LA is still struggling to contend. They're 38-46, which is fourth in the AL West.

Ohtani is also set to start in the All-Star Game at Chavez Ravine. He didn't exactly do that well in last year's HR Derby but if the two-way star does decide to participate again, it'll at least be a thrill for all the fans. You can also expect lots of Angels supporters to make their way to Dodger Stadium on July 18th to watch Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani represent their ballclub.
