The Los Angeles Angels are far from a playoff spot but it is always a joy watching Shohei Ohtani hit and pitch. Unfortunately, Ohtani has been scratched from his scheduled start on Friday. Furthermore, there is a possibility that Ohtani could be sidelined for the remainder of the season, per ESPN.
“Two-way star Shohei Ohtani won't pitch Friday for the Los Angeles Angels because of a sore right arm that could sideline him as a pitcher for the rest of the season.”
This could be a problem, especially since Ohtani has been absolutely dealing on the mound and delivering big time with the bat in 2021. But, the Angels might sideline him as a pitcher, which would at least mean that he could pick up the bat and appear as a designated hitter.
Angels manager Joe Maddon spoke about the situation with Ohtani as well in regards to his status as a pitcher for the rest of the season.
“If there's any kind of lingering soreness, you may not see him pitch.”
This makes sense, and the Angels can proceed with extreme caution regarding Ohtani, especially considering that Ohtani pitched in only two games last season. But, he was in the lineup Thursday and had a pair of hits, so at least we can all watch Ohtani.
