Ubisoft Forward took a turn into the weird when they presented Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Set to be released in 2022, it's going to take us back to the world of James Cameron's 2009 film Avatar. It's an old enough film that some kids watching the E3 presentation might not recognize the blue-skinned people in the trailer. The surprise reveal may have rocked the boat a little, but the trailer didn't give us much to go by in terms of gameplay.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora looks gorgeous, though. Ubisoft said that the game is being developed using their proprietary Snowdrop Engine at internal studio Massive. The game will be a single-player experience, and players will get to explore Western Pandora. That part of the exotic world has not been explored before. You play as Na’vi, fighting against the RDA forces threatening your homeland.

This is not exactly the first time a game based on Avatar will be made. Back in 2009, a companion game for the film came out to promote it. That game didn't do well, both commercially and critically. We hope that this second foray for a game into Pandora would fare better. Avatar: Frontier of Pandora comes out in 2022 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Google Stadia.
