The January transfer window has come and gone, yet Ousmane Dembele remains a Barcelona player. The Frenchman refuses to sign a new deal at the Camp Nou amid injury problems and lack of playing time, but club president Joan Laporta evidently believes Dembele is still full of potential.

Laporta even went as far as to say that he could have more talent than PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe.

Via Goal:

In all fairness, there is no doubting Dembele's capabilities. But, he has struggled immensely to stay on the pitch during his time at Barcelona, which has led to his uncertain future with the LaLiga giants. After all, the Catalans did pay a whopping €105 million to buy the youngster from Borussia Dortmund in 2017. Since then, he's only made 87 league appearances.

Dembele's current contract expires this summer but he also refused to leave the club this month. You frankly can't blame Barcelona for wanting to cash in on the striker, who cost them a boatload of cash just four years ago. With Dembele actually healthy for once, it will be interesting to see if he is in Xavi's plans for the remainder of the campaign.

But, I have to say, Laporta is slightly out of line comparing him to Mbappe, who has consistently proven to be one of the most lethal finishers in world football. To each their own, though. Hopefully, Dembele can make an impact before officially leaving in the coming months. Who knows, maybe he'll change his tune and stay in Barcelona after all. Only time will tell.
