Memphis Depay is off to one promising start to his Barcelona career.
The new Barca forward opened up his account with the club by notching an assist in the team's La Liga opener against Real Sociedad and then followed it up with a game-tying goal in the 1-1 away result against Athletic Bilbao.
Depay extended his hot streak during Barca's key 2-1 league win over Getafe, where he scored what wound up being the game-winning goal of the match.
Even as he has already won over a multitude of Barca fans, Depay is not yet satisfied with his early run with the club. The Dutch international spoke after the fixture against Getafe, where he noted that there is still plenty to work on over the early portions of the season.
“We got the three points, so that is what we need and why we are happy,” Depay said. “Obviously, my goal matters more now.
“Still not satisfied with the whole game, a lot of points to improve. Personally as well, I can give more. I didn't feel so fresh, a little bit of pain.”
Depay heard chants of his name ringing throughout the Camp Nou during the game, which meant a lot to him at this stage in his career.
“It's something I couldn't imagine when I was young,” Depay said. “For me, it's a pleasure to play in front of them and work with the team to obviously help the team but also to enjoy with the fans and to connect and get that feeling with them because they have missed it also for so long.”
Depay currently sits at three goal contributions (two goals, one assist) with Barcelona in the new La Liga season, which leads the team. He is already among the fan favorites within the team, and he sure will look to keep up this promising start going throughout this season, especially as Barca is set for key UEFA Champions League group stage and league fixtures in the coming months.
