How unlucky could Barcelona get? Sergio Aguero could be forced to retire from professional football after suffering a heart arrhythmia during Barcelona's 1-1 draw with Alaves at the Camp Nou in October.

Aguero initially came to Barcelona with hopes of joining his fellow countryman, Lionel Messi—but that was not to be the case. Disaster struck at Barca and the club ultimately had to part ways with Messi in order to register the rest of their new signings for the 2021-22 LaLiga season.

To add salt to the wounds, Aguero was diagnosed with an injury that set him back 10 weeks. Following his injury, he played his first 3 games for Barca coming off the bench including a game against Real Madrid.

Though Barca went on to lose El Clasico, Aguero made his mark and netted his first goal for the Blaugrana after coming in the 77th minute against Real Madrid—for Barca fans, this seemed like a glimpse of great things to come.

However, during a clash with Alaves at the Camp Nou in late October, Aguero felt a sudden chest discomfort in the first half and was ultimately forced to withdraw from the rest of the game. It was later revealed that the new Barca striker had suffered from a heart arrhythmia.

Catalan Radio reveals that the situation has escalated and could be more serious than initially thought. Aguero could be forced to retire altogether from professional football, and he is aware of how serious the situation is becoming.

Via MARCA:

“Sergio Aguero has undergone a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure by Dr. Josep Brugada,” read the statement. “He is out and for the next three months the effectiveness of the treatment will be evaluated to determine his recovery process.”

Not only are Barca fans concerned, but every single football fan around the world. Aguero has played a key role in creating an enjoyable brand of football in the last decade, and it would be such a shame for a player of his stature to depart at such an early age.
