Bayern Munich has made a move for RB Leipzig midfielder Marcel Sabitzer just hours before the transfer window closes. Per Fabrizio Romano, Julian Nagelsmann has brought in his former player for a reported €16 million.

There had been some speculation earlier this summer that Tottenham may sign Sabitzer, who was a key piece in Austria’s Euro 2020 run to the Round of 16. However, the idea of reuniting with Nagelsmann on Bayern was clearly too good to pass up.

Sabitzer’s ability to play through the middle and out wide will prove to be valuable for the Bundesliga giants. He bagged eight goals and supplied three assists last term for Leipzig. While Sabitzer is yet to score this season, his talent will surely be lifted with better players around him.

This move caps off an impressive transfer window for Bayern, who also snatched up former Leipzig center-back Dayot Upamecano. Nagelsmann’s squad finally got back to their dominant ways over the weekend, throttling Hertha Berlin 5-0, with Robert Lewandowski netting a hat-trick.

With Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka typically starting in the middle of the park, Sabitzer may find more playing time in a wide position. But, he will undoubtedly be given a chance by Nagelsmann to prove himself. After all, no one knows him better than his former boss at Leipzig.
