Chicago Bears defensive end Khalil Mack has been one of the best defensive players in the NFL for the last several years. It appears he is now focused on becoming a better leader.

Mack spent the first several years focusing on becoming an elite player. According to Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic, he hopes to lead by example for the Bears.

“I wanted to be a leader and not just vocally but with my actions. Ultimately you want to come in and win, and that’s all I care about. The fact that we’re winning, but to win in the playoffs would be another step we can take. I’m looking forward to it.”

It is encouraging to see a player of Mack's caliber is always looking for ways to improve his team. The Bears made quite the investment to acquire him from the Oakland Raiders this offseason. Aside from the bevy of quality picks they gave up, Chicago also made him the highest-paid defensive player in the league. Fortunately, he has still managed to find a way to give them plenty of bang for their buck.

Mack has been everything the Bears had hoped for and then some. He finished the 2018 campaign with 12.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, and returned an interception for a touchdown. More importantly, he has fueled the surprising resurgence in Chicago this season. Although they had accrued a solid, young core of talent over the last couple of years, things did not start clicking until Mack's arrival. The move will undoubtedly pay huge dividends for the Bears for years to come.
