After a disappointing Week 1 loss, every single Chicago Bears fan has been pleading for Matt Nagy to make rookie Justin Fields the starting quarterback. Andy Dalton didn’t play great in the season opener, while Fields heavily impressed in limited action and even rushed for his very first touchdown.

The Bears head coach has been already facing criticism for sticking with Dalton and his latest comments point to once again, using Fields off the bench. Via Adam Hoge of NBCS Chicago:

A “chess piece” essentially means he will play a part, but it doesn’t sound like the Bears plan on starting the former Ohio State star. The Bears were blown out 34-14 by the LA Rams, with Dalton failing to throw for a single touchdown. He was also sacked three times and intercepted once. Fields completed 2 of 2 passing attempts for 10 yards.

This Sunday’s game against the Bengals is actually winnable, but not if Dalton plays like that again. At this point, if he struggles to get the offense going, Nagy is going to have no choice but to insert Fields as the first-string quarterback. Every single Bears supporter wants it to happen and the youngster clearly looks up for the task.

It will be interesting to see how the situation plays out.
