Tuesday morning brought a rumor from Mark Konkol of Patch that the Chicago Bears have plans to fire head coach Matt Nagy after the Thanksgiving game against the Detroit Lions. The report even claimed that the Bears had already told Nagy of the decision.

To the surprise of nobody, Nagy denied the report during his Tuesday press conference. The Bears head coach said the report is “not accurate” and that he has a strong relationship with ownership:

Nagy was never going to say anything else on the matter, so now we will have to wait and see if a firing comes to fruition. The Bears have never fired a head coach in the middle of the season, and the timing of this report raised a lot of eyebrows. There has been plenty of smoke surrounding Nagy's job security with Chicago in the midst of a long losing streak, but the timing of this was a bit odd. It would be strange to tell a coach that he's fired but then allow him to coach one more game anyway before officially giving him the boot.

The Bears very well may have plans to fire Nagy, but it wouldn't be surprising if that announcement doesn't come until the end of the season, assuming the team doesn't make a shocking turnaround. Chicago is 3-7 and in the midst of a five-game skid.
