The Chicago Bears lost a tough game at home to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, when Eddy Pineiro missed a game-winning 41-yard field goal as time expired. The 17-16 loss dropped the Bears to 3-4 on the season, but Bears head coach Matt Nagy hasn’t lost much confidence in their kicker.

Speaking to the media (via Pro Football Talk), Nagy said that the team has all the faith in the world in Pineiro, and gave “zero thought” as to doing anything other than kneeling down ahead of the field goal try. The Bears had timeouts and plenty of time on the clock, but instead chose to kneel the ball and set up Pineiro for what would end up being a missed kick.

Despite the outcome, Nagy said that he would still “do it again a thousand times” and that the missed kick didn’t change his opinion on Pineiro.

“We love Eddy. We’ve got all the faith in the world in him. . . . It’s the NFL,” Nagy said. “It happens. How do you respond to it? I’m very, very comfortable knowing that if I’m in that exact situation again at that same yard line, I’m going to do the same thing.”

Of course, the Bears had many more problems than just a missed kick. The offense continued to look extremely poor, scoring just one touchdown on five trips into the red zone against the Chargers. Although Eddy Pineiro’s job seems safe, the Bears will have to improve in order to catch up ground, as the chase for an NFC playoff spot continues to get even tougher.
