The Chicago Bears have gotten out to a strong start to the season sitting atop of the NFC North with a 6-3 mark that has put them on the trajectory to compete in the playoffs.

This early success is something that has taken second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky by surprise any means, but rather that it has him enthused about what lies ahead of the team moving forward,

“I’m not surprised, but I’m definitely happy and excited about it because this is what we worked for,” Trubisky said according to Chris Emma of 670 The Score. “This is how we envisioned the turnaround happening.

“We got the right head guy in here — Coach Nagy is definitely leading the charge, and we just have the right guys in our locker room to change the culture around,” Trubisky added per Emma.

The Bears have had some solid play on both sides of the ball with their defense leading the charge that currently ranks third overall in the league along with being fourth with 19.4 points allowed and second against the run. Their defense has been the backbone of the team and their strong start to the year that has helped them take that next step forward.

Meanwhile, Trubisky has had some notable growth in his game under head coach Matt Nagy's offensive scheme as he has passed for 2,304 yards with 19 touchdowns to seven interceptions along with holding a 101.6 passer rating. He currently ranks ninth in touchdown passes and 10th in passer rating while surpassing 300 passing yards four times this season. Trubisky has six games with multiple touchdown passes including a career-high six touchdowns thrown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

There is still plenty of development needed with his maturation as a quarterback, but he has played well enough to push the Bears toward being a legitimate playoff-caliber team. If Chicago hopes to take the next step, it will require Trubisky to step up his play toward being able to carry the offense with his arm at times, especially some of the top tier teams that he will have to face when it comes down to the playoffs. If he's able to do that, this may put forth an even brighter future ahead for the Bears.
