Going into 2019, the Chicago Bears looked to be legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

They were returning most of a dominant defense that led the club to 12 wins and an NFC North division title in 2018, Mitchell Trubisky appeared to be improving and the offense seemed to be on the upswing as a whole.

Of course, a whole lot of things ended up going wrong.

The defense was still good but was hardly as menacing as it was the year before, Trubisky took a step back and the offense flat out stunk. As a result, the Bears went just 8-8 and missed the playoffs entirely.

Now, running back Tarik Cohen regrets the preseason championship talk:

“There was a lot of talk surrounding us about the Super Bowl, and that’s not what it’s supposed to be about,” said Cohen, according to Jason Lieser of The Chicago Sun-Times. “It’s supposed to be about staying low and hard work, and at the end of the season, you’ll be there. Now that we have the noise off of us, it’ll be better for us.”

Cohen in particular struggled mightily in 2019 for the Bears, as he rushed for just 213 yards while averaging a meager 3.3 yards per carry. He did catch 79 passes, but only totaled 456 yards and three touchdowns from that.

That came after a 2018 campaign in which Cohen made the Pro Bowl and earned a First-Team All-Pro selection.

With 2019 in his rearview mirror, the 24-year-old is already looking forward to 2020.

“I had a bad taste in my mouth at the end of the season, and that’s why I’m really ready to get back at it,” Cohen said.

I'm sure the rest of the Bears feel the same way.
