Trey Burton is going to be a very big part of the Chicago Bears' offense this season, but he has not been able to participate much this offseason in practice. The tight end has been recovering from a sports hernia surgery, but has finally rejoined the team in practice.

Despite some wondering why he has been sitting out so long, Burton insisted that he has not suffered any kind of setback in his recovery process.

He also admitted that sitting out so long has been very difficult for him.

“I want to be out there with the guys. I can’t stand sitting on the sidelines. It’s really been frustrating from that standpoint. But I know there’s a bigger picture in mind.”

That bigger picture is competing for a Super Bowl with the Bears. They were one of the top teams in the NFC last season and ended up winning the NFC North division. Unfortunately, they were unable to knock off the Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs, losing after a missed field goal by Cody Parkey.

Now, the team feels that they are in an even better position to compete for a championship. Even with the loss of defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, the team is expected to have one of the top defenses in the league under Chuck Pagano. Matt Nagy is an offensive genius and that isn't changing.

Burton needs to get healthy to give the Bears the kind of athletic tight end that Nagy loves to use. He caught 54 passes for 569 yards and six touchdowns last season.

Expect to see Burton ramp things up in the near future. The Bears have been bringing him along slowly, but he knows the reason and seems to be close to returning to full strength.
