Belal Muhammad wants to run it back with Leon Edwards after their UFC Fight Night main event ended in controversy Saturday night.
The fight was ruled a “no contest” after Edwards accidentally hit Muhammad with an eye poke in the second round.
Muhammad told TMZ he did not suffer any serious injury to the eye. But he is going after Edwards in the hopes of a rematch:
“If you're a man — if you're a real contender — if you think you're a real champion, you've gotta beat everybody. So, you gotta beat me and then earn your title shot.”
Muhammad continues, “You think you earned a title shot off a no contest? That's like the stupidest thing I've ever heard.”
“You don't deserve a title shot, you deserve another rematch.”
Edwards won the first round on the judges' scorecards, which he has since used as justification for seeking a title shot rather than trying to run it back. Clearly, Muhammad thinks that mindset is nonsensical. He has a point. There is no telling whether Muhammad could have rallied over the course of five rounds. Edwards did not finish him, so anything is possible. Still, Muhammad could be hard-pressed to convince the No. 3 welterweight to fight him again.
