Through his first seven seasons in the NFL, Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver AJ Green has established himself as one of the premier players in the league at his position. He has been one of the most talented and productive wideouts that have continued to put up huge production.

However, Green had a notable dip in his overall impact on the game last season that was a bit uncharacteristic from him. According to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Cincinnati Enquirer, the 29-year-old attributed that to him merely overthinking on the field with eyes toward making big plays on each reception.

“Just trying to do too much, not letting the game come to me,” Green said. “I was thinking too much. Thinking I have to make every play to get the offense going. Not being myself and just going out there and having fun like I usually do.”

The Bengals had struggled significantly for the second straight season missing the playoffs while finishing with an under .500 record. A bulk of this was the lack of consistency on the offensive side of the ball with Pro Bowl quarterback Andy Dalton struggling to be a stable factor for much of the year. This had seen the team get off to a slow start and fire their offensive coordinator following the first two games.

However, Green had remained an enormous part of the offense despite the team's struggles as he hauled in 75 catches for 1,078 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. This marked the sixth time in his career that he has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards, which put him behind Chad Johnson for the second-most in franchise history. He had also joined Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison and Arizona Cardinals' Larry Fitzgerald as the only players in NFL history with at least 500 catches and 50 touchdown receptions in their first 90 career games.

With a renewed focus, Green could be in line to improve upon his strong production this upcoming season to help push the Bengals back into the playoffs for the first time since 2015.
