The entire NFL world is in shock after the news of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins' sudden passing Saturday morning in South Florida. Haskins' tragic death hit Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow as he and Haskins used to be teammates in college for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Burrow took to Twitter to express his grief over the absolutely devastating news.

It could be remembered that before Burrow became a true star in the NCAA for the LSU Tigers, he was first a quarterback for the Buckeyes from 2015 to 2018. He transferred to LSU in 2018 when it became apparent that it was Haskins who was going to win the starting gig for the Buckeyes. Both Burrow and Haskins would go on to shine in 2018, but it was the latter who shone brighter that year, finishing the season with 50 passing touchdowns against just eight interceptions. Burrow would top that a year later with the Tigers when he led LSU to a national title victory while coming up with a 60-yard campaign.

Former Buckeyes wide receiver and current Washington Commanders star Terry McLaurin, in 2020, spoke about the quarterback battle between Burrow and Haskins.

Via Ethan Cadeaux of NBC Sports Washington:

“It was really close,” McLaurin said. “I just remember that summer, they would go back and forth who would have a good day. Nobody really had a bad day. It was just one guy stood out, then the other guy stood out the next day. They were in a competition, but they were also trying to help each other.”

In the NFL, it was Burrow who managed to translate his success in the collegiate ranks to the pros, even leading the Bengals to a Super Bowl appearance in 2022.

At the time of his death, Haskins was in the process of getting it together with the Steelers after his stint with the Washington Football Team who took him 15th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Haskins was 24 years old.
