The Cincinnati Bengals own the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft later this month, and while the conventional choice would be selecting LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, there has been some speculation that the Bengals could potentially trade the pick.

Head coach Zac Taylor, who was interviewed on The Dan Patrick Show on Monday, threw some water on that chatter this week, saying that Cincinnati will probably be hanging on to the top selection:

“It doesn't look that way,” Taylor said when asked if the Bengals could trade the pick, via Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer. “If there is a guy there that you believe in that can really change the franchise over the next 10-15 years, then that's a hard thing to pass up on. You know, people all the time ask me what would it take to give up that pick and if there's somebody there that people are willing to give up a lot for, that they believe in, then that just really verifies what we think about those players as well.”

Cincy seems to be enamored with Burrow, as it has maxed out its allotted time that it can actually talk to him throughout the pre-draft process.

While Taylor is not announcing exactly what the Bengals will be doing come April 23, he seems to be at peace with the route that the franchise is taking:

“I think we're really comfortable with the direction we're headed,” Taylor said. “I'm not quite ready to make any major announcements yet, but I think we've done our homework here the last three or four months and kind of vetted all these guys out and feel really comfortable with the direction we're headed.”

Cincinnati went just 2-14 this past season and has not won a playoff game in three decades, so you can certainly understand why it may feel the need to just pull the trigger on drafting Burrow rather than messing around and trying to make a trade.
