UFC 302: Islam Makhachev vs. Dustin Poirier continues on the prelims with a fight in the women's bantamweight division between Ailin Perez and Joselyne Edwards. Perez comes into her fourth fight in the UFC riding a two-fight winning streak meanwhile, Edwards is coming off a unanimous decision loss which halted a three-fight winning streak. With that said, check out our UFC odds series for our Perez-Edwards prediction and pick.
Ailin Perez (9-2) kicked off her UFC career with a submission loss at the hands of Stephanie Egger on short notice. She was able to bounce back in a big way in her next fight where she set a women's bantamweight record landing the most takedowns (10) in a single fight. Perez has now won two in a row and will be looking to extend her winning streak to three when she takes on Joselyne Edwards this weekend at the Prudential Center.
Joselyne Edwards (13-5) suffered her first defeat since 2021 back in September 2023 when she dropped a decision to Nora Cornolle. Before that loss, Edwards was on a three-fight winning streak with all three fights coming by decision. Edwards will be looking to get back to her winning ways when she faces off against Ailin Perez this weekend at UFC 302.

Why Ailin Perez Will Win
Ailin Perez comes into this fight riding a two-fight winning streak after she failed to win her UFC debut on short notice against Stephanie Egger. She made up for that loss in a big way in her next fight making history landing the most takedowns in a single fight is UFC women's history which was 10. Perez will look to do one better when she takes on Joselyn Edwards this weekend to extend her winning streak to three in a row at UFC 302.
Article Continues BelowPerez looked like a fish out of water when she came into her UFC debut when she was training in her native country of Argentina. Since her debut, she moved to the States and trained out of MMA Masters until she is now training out of the Goat Shed in Miami, Florida. The move has worked wonders for her as she now looks like a competent UFC bantamweight contender.
She is however still a work in progress when it comes to her striking but her grappling has leveled up a ton which will be her biggest asset in this fight against Joselyne Edwards. Seeing as how Edwards has always struggled with a heavy grappling pace, Perez will have to go in there and put Edwards through the wringer. If Perez can avoid keeping this fight from being a kickboxing match and make this a clinch-type grappling fight she can get the job done and continue on her winning streak.
Why Joselyne Edwards Will Win
Joselyne Edwards had her three-fight winning streak snapped when she took a loss to Nora Cornolle in her last fight. Before her most recent loss, she won three consecutive decisions (two split) but had missed weight in back-to-back fights. Edwards was starting to look like she turned a corner until Cornolle stopped her in her tracks. Now, Edwards will be looking to get back on track when she takes on Ailin Perez this weekend at UFC 302.
Edwards is going to have a distinct advantage on the feet at distance. That is where she can blast her leg kicks at range and utilize her movement and her volume to pull away on the scorecards with her activity. Against Perez, Edwards will need to utilize her speed advantage and her movement to keep off the cage and keep this fight in the center of the Octagon. If Edwards can keep this fight on her feet and stay out of the grasp of Perez she can outstrike Perez to a decision victory.
Final Ailin Perez-Joselyne Edwards Prediction & Pick
While these two bantamweights may not be the most exciting fighters on the roster, the bad blood between these two is what's going to make this fight entertaining. These two had an altercation at the UFC PI last year which is what made this fight come to fruition. Now, they get to settle the score here at UFC 302 with both of them wanting to get their hands on one another. In this matchup, Perez's grappling is going to be the x-factor. While Edwards will undoubtedly have the advantage at range, she doesn't do a great job at keeping it there. Ultimately, Edwards will look good on the feet until Perez gets a hold of her and takes her down and repeats this for three rounds and 15 minutes to extend her winning streak to three.
