It's time to continue our MLB odds series with an Angels-Dodgers prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Angels Dodgers.
The reminders about the perils of baseball betting were very much in evidence on Friday night in Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers entered that game with a 10-game winning streak and a 17-3 record in their last 20 games against the Angels. The Dodgers have worn out their Southern California neighbors from Anaheim in recent years. Moreover, Shohei Ohtani was now a member of the Dodgers after playing the past few seasons for the Halos. Ohtani hit a two-run homer for the Dodgers in the fifth inning to give them a 2-0 lead as well. Everything pointed to the Dodgers not only winning the game but covering the 1.5-run spread on the run line.
Then Dodger reliever Ryan Yarbrough hit three different Angel hitters in the same inning, enabling the Halos to tie the game at 2-2. The Dodger offense — without Mookie Betts and Max Muncy — stalled. The Angels won 3-2 in 10 innings on a two-out, two-strike RBI single. A lot of betting tickets were shredded. You never know what will happen in one baseball game. Bettor, beware.
Angels-Dodgers Projected Starters
Zach Plesac vs. Tyler Glasnow
Zach Plesac (1-0) has a 4.50 ERA, which consists of one solid start against the Brewers on Monday, which was the product of an injury to starter Joel Soriano. Plesac did really well against one of the better offenses in the National League. Now he'll face the loaded Dodger lineup in what will be a very tough task for him. In case you're wondering: Yes, Zach Plesac is related to MLB Network analyst and former MLB pitcher Dan Plesac. Dan is Zach's uncle. Plesac does not have overpowering stuff, but he knows how to pitch and has a clear idea of how to execute a game plan. He did that against the Brewers, and that should give the Angels confidence that they can cover the spread against the Dodgers.
Last Start: Monday, June 17 versus the Milwaukee Brewers: 6 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 HR, 2 BB, 1 K
2024 Road Splits: none
Tyler Glasnow (7-5) has a 3.00 ERA. He has been good for the Dodgers this year, often giving the team the length it really needs. With Clayton Kershaw unavailable to this point in the season (he is making rehab starts in the minor leagues right now), and Walker Buehler not available in the first several weeks of the season before rejoining the rotation, the Dodgers needed Glasnow to pitch deep into games to save the bullpen. Glasnow has done that. As you can see below, he has averaged more than six innings per start in his eight home starts this season. That's what the Dodgers are looking for.
Last Start: Sunday, June 16 versus the Kansas City Royals: 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K
2024 Home Splits: 8 starts, 49 IP, 319 H, 3 R, 5 HR, 9 BB, 60 K

Why The Angels Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Angels just limited the Dodgers to two runs. Moreover, they did so with Patrick Sandoval, a pitcher who entered Friday night's game with a 2-8 record and a bloated ERA. If they can do that, Zach Plesac can come in and deliver another quality start on the heels of his quality start versus Milwaukee earlier this week. The Dodgers don't have Mookie Betts or Max Muncy, and those two absences take a lot from their offense and its overall potential. The Angels are huge underdogs here. You could probably get them +2.5 runs for a decent price, given that +1.5 is plus-money. Angels +2.5 might be the play here if you're looking for a bet on the Halos.
Why The Dodgers Will Cover The Spread/Win
It's Zach Plesac versus Tyler Glasnow, coming off a Dodger loss in which the Dodgers did not hit well. This certainly feels like a game in which the Dodgers score six or seven runs and roll to a comfortable win under Glasnow.
